Mirror, Mirror, on the Wall... 5 Places Where You Can See Your Reflection

January 13, 2009

Giving your children a theme with which they can plan their day is fun and constructive.  Not only does it force them to use their brains, it gives you a destination!  Have them come up with 5 places in Boston where they can see their reflection, then put those places on the "to-go" list.  Trust me, it's not easy!  Here's what I came up with:

1.     In the glass of the giant tank at the New England Aquarium.  Once you're done staring at yourself (J), check out the green sea turtles, African penguins, giant Pacific octopus, jellyfish, and more.

2.    The splash fountain outside the Christian Science Center (175 Huntington Avenue) is always full of kids looking to splash around.  Complete with a reflecting pool in the middle, no child should miss a chance to check out their reflection here.  Only a few months to go!

3.    They probably won't notice their reflection in the water at the Boats Afloat exhibit at the Children's Museum, because they'll be having too much fun.  But they will have a blast sailing an assortment of boats and barges while controlling the current in this 28 foot, 800 gallon tank that replicates the Fort Point Channel, just outside the museum.

4.    The ice at the famous Frog Pond.  Located on the Boston Common, a twirl on the Pond is a must for any true Bostonian.  And in summer, they can smile back at themselves as the ice turns into a splash pool.  So much fun!

5.    A walk along the Charles River in any season, is the perfect Boston-centric place to see your reflection.  Calm and cold in winter or energetic and balmy in summer, no matter the time of year, this spot is a must-see.
